Wedding Photojournalist Association

I found out at the weekend that one of my photos had “placed” in the latest Wedding Photojournalist Association contest. The photo, (below) from Karen and Mike’s wedding at St Audries Park in May, came 17th in the Getting Ready category. 17th place may not sound much until you find out there were over 10,000 entries accross 7 categories, so I’m pretty chuffed!

International award! (Wedding Photojournalist Association)

I found out yesterday – as I was about to photograph a wedding in Devon – that I had won 1st place and 15th place in the Wedding Photojournalist Association Q2 contest, at my first attempt! The WPJA are a worldwide organisation made up from the very best Documentary Wedding Photographers in the world. They represent what I do better than any other association out there, and I have always found the winning photos to be very inspiring and worth a look for any one with an interest in photography. See all the results here.

They hold quarterly competitions and receive thousands of entries for each one, so I was over the moon to receive 1st place in the ‘Weather’ category with a photograph from Tim and Sarah’s wedding in April and also 15th place in the ‘Getting Ready’ category, also from Tim and Sarah’s wedding. The winning photographs can be seen below.

JUDGES COMMENTS: The elegant use of color, symmetry and detail make this a beautiful image.

The balanced composition at this beautiful setting helps make this picture work. It is a nice way of seeing this situation – the umbrella down instead of over their heads.

JUDGES COMMENTS: Love the ‘down to earth’ feeling of this bride in a somewhat smaller at home setting where you feel again like you are in the room and the photographer isn’t present. Strong usage of light and beautiful expression add to this photo.
